PUPILS from King’s School and Walton Girls’ High School successfully competed in the 2011 Rotary Youth Speaks competition to promote public speaking in young people.
The Rotary Club of Grantham Kesteven held the Grantham heats of the competition with teams from both schools qualifying for the next round, to be held in Melton Mowbray in January.
The winner in the intermediate heat was a team from the King’s School with a talk entitled ‘Why do young people have such a bad reputation?’
The intermediate best speaker award went to Ben Morrison.
The runner-up in the intermediate heat was a team from Walton Girls with a talk entitled ‘Year 11s: Horrors or Heroes?’
The winner in the senior heat was a team from Walton Girls with a talk entitled ‘Superman, Spiderman, Batman’.
The runner-up in the senior heat was a team from King’s School with a talk entitled ‘Today’s society ridicules success’.
The senior best speaker award was won by Jake Mitchell.
