A SPONSORED bounce raised more than £700 recently for a charity which it is hoped will help a toddler with a life-threatening illness.
Seventeen-month-old Hannah Roberts, who attends Hilltop Day Nursery, was born with cystic fibrosis.
Her friends at the nursery held the sponsored bounce to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, which funds research into the disease and needs to raise £6m to complete a gene therapy trial.
Hannah’s mum Emma said: “She was three-weeks-old when we found out she had cystic fibrosis.
“I was devastated at the time. It’s a really serious condition but she’s doing really well with it.”
Hannah has to take a range of medicines throughout the day to help her with the condition which clogs the lungs and digestive system with a thick, sticky mucus.
Emma said: “The gene therapy trials so far have been such a success. If it works it would mean that Hannah wouldn’t have to take all of her medicines and it would increase her life span. It could also stop the condition from getting worse.”
Emma was thrilled when the nursery decided to support the cause and arrange the sponsored bounce to raise money for the trust.
She added: “I’ve been overwhelmed by all of the support in the nursery. The trust has so much money to raise that it’s important to raise awareness about the condition.”
Donna Roberts, who runs the nursery, was pleased that so many people got involved to raise the money.
She said: “If they don’t get the funding by March they won’t go ahead with it.”
