TWO famous faces from the world of sport were visitors to Belton Woods golf course.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp and ex England fast bowler Freddie Flintoff were among those enjoying a game at the Grantham course.

The two belong to the De Vere Club, run by the owners of the Belton Woods Hotel and golf course, which gives members the chance to play all 16 De Vere courses in the UK.

They two get together with other members a couple of times a year to play one of the courses, and this year saw them drop in to Belton.

Flintoff said: “I’m delighted to be a member of The De Vere Club. I’ve had some lessons with De Vere’s PGA pros and things are coming along quite nicely. I’ve got plenty to work on but it has been great playing at The Carrick on Loch Lomond, Mottram Hall and Oulton Hall recently.”

At the Greetham Valley club, 17-handicapper David Aldred has had an excellent couple of weeks.

He came second to Tim Howlett in the September medal, last week won the first round of the seniors winter league with 43 three points, a couple of days later, he and partner Fred Aspin came fourth in the Market Harborough invitation with 71 points, and then this week won the seniors October medal.

The October midweek medal was won by Shaun Denholm, who managed nine pars and nine bogies.

The seniors played a very competitive Ladies section.

Playing off the men’s card, the ladies had four courtesy shots but the men won by eight games to two to claim the silver salver.
