I MAKE no apology for writing again to remind the Journal’s many readers that our senior local football team are now within touching distance of the league title.

I am not “counting chickens” but it could be won this Saturday – if results go our way. So if you want to share the experience, and celebrate a success story for our proud town, then please make the effort to come along.

I urge you to take the time out and show your appreciation of the hard work over the last few years, on and off the pitch, that has put the club in a position to secure promotion.

Grantham Town is not some anonymous corporate venture as too often is seen in the Premiership. It is in fact run and managed by local people who work and live in the area and who care about giving the town something to lift the collective spirit.

The club is followed everywhere by a significant band of loyal supporters, all of whom live or have lived in the town, and provide the team with outstanding vocal encouragement. They have supported the club unconditionally through some hard times and deserve to experience happier times.

We now need more people to share the story.

So please come along this Saturday and why not again when we play second placed Ilkeston in the final home game of the season on April 21?

Winning any trophy in football is actually rare. Many strive but few succeed. But here in our midst we now have the culmination of a season unfolding before us – and a big chance to get 100 per cent behind our local club and our Grantham Town.

TONY FRAHER

Chairman

Grantham Town Supporters’ Club
