Harrowby United disappointed to draw after half time lead

United Counties League

Division One

Harrowby United 2

Oadby Town 2

Harrowby United preserved their unbeaten start to the season but were disappointed to take just one point from the game after they led 2-0 at the break in this top-of-the-table clash.

The Arrows had the evening’s first effort when Martin Wormall tried a long range shot which just cleared the bar after spotting Oadby keeper Luke Pickering off his line. In what developed into a game of two halves, Harrowby dominated the first period, with man-of-the-match Lee Shaw creating havoc time and again with forages down the right flank.

The home side went in front after 25 minutes when Wormall rifled home a shot from the edge of the area which gave Pickering no chance. Things got better for Harrowby on the half hour mark when Shaw passed inside to Wormall. He played the ball into Dan Reidy who controlled before calmly slotting home a right foot finish.

Oadby’s only real chance of the first half produced a fine save from Harrowby custodian Jack Drury in the 40th minute, diving to his right to fingertip away a good strike from just outside the box.

As much as Harrowby had dominated the first period, their visitors from Leicestershire equalled that effort in the second. The game was blown wide open in the 57th minute when a contentious refereeing decision went the visitors’ way. Within a minute, Oadby got themselves right back in the game when a corner from the right was met by Jon Stevenson who neatly guided the ball past everyone and into the net.

Although pegged back for long periods, Harrowby did have a couple of efforts themselves, most notably a Sam Kirton header from a corner which was very well saved by Pickering.

Oadby’s leveller came in the 81stt minute when a cross from the right was met by the head of substitute Lee Anderson Dube, giving Drury no chance.

Harrowby United: Drury, Harper, Preston, Whyley, Kirton, Shaw (Neaverson, 90), Jaques, Bolland (c), Lee, Reidy (Wilson, 63), Wormall. Subs not used: Gibson, Vorley, Peberdy.
