Lincoln 7

Kesteven warmed up for the forthcoming campaign with a fine performance against Lincoln at Woodnook on Saturday. The match was played in four 20-minute sessions to allow coaches to assess their charges.

The home team were able to field a strong line up at the start and soon showed their intent on starting the new season playing the same fast open rugby that led to promotion last year. They were pleased to welcome back Will Bradley after a long injury lay-off and he showed his appetite for the game was still there when he opened the scoring. Chris Galloway kicked the conversion.

Lincoln had their best spell of the day in this quarter and repliedy with a try of their own. A successful kick levelled the scores.

As the afternoon wore on it was clear the Kesteven were growing in confidence. Galloway, settling in well at fly-half, was next to score with a converted try and penalty, before Dan Turner finished the session with a fine try to take the half time score to 24-7.

The third quarter saw Kesteven introduce some fresh legs and stretched away with further tries from Aaron Whittaker, Keiran Taylor, Will Cann and a second for Bradley. Galloway continued with a faultless kicking display to convert all four, taking the score to 52-7.

Play became a little scrappy in the final quarter although Whittaker completed his hat trick to extend Ks’ advantage.
