United Counties League
Division One
Harrowby United 2
Thrapston Town 1
Harrowby United again left it late to gain another victory which moved them to top of the league.
The Arrows overcame last season’s “bogey” side Thrapston Town with two second half goals after trailing at the break.
The home side started brightly enough and chances fell to Liam Harper, who headed just wide, Dan Reidy who dragged a shot wide from a good position, and Lee Shaw who brought a good save out of visiting keeper Liam Fox.
It was the visitors however who went in front, breaking from the back. Bobby Lee was beaten in a challenge in midfield before the ball was played through to Aiden Bradshaw who neatly lobbed the advancing Jack Drury in the Harrowby goal.
Harrowby increased the pressure on Thrapston in the second half and levelled the game in the 70th minute through a well despatched penalty from Sam Kirton, the spot kick awarded after Sam Weatherstone was brought down after another good run from the right back.
The sustained Harrowby pressure looked to have paid off in the 89th minute when the ball found Martin Wormall in the penalty area. His snapshot was goalbound until a touch from keeper Fox deflected it on to the bar and away to safety. With time ebbing away, the home side forced a corner and Wormall’s effort deep into the penalty area was half cleared by only as far as Sam Hill. He headed back across the six-yard box which allowed Jack Whyley to steal in and head the ball home at the far post to win it for the Arrows.
