A MAN has betrayed the trust of his housemate by using his bank card to buy goods.
Alexander Baker, who now lives in Stamford Street, Grantham, used the Co-op bank card to order pizza from Domino’s, food from Asda and also to rent films.
Grantham magistrates heard on Wednesday how the 23-year-old was living with the victim in Grantham last year.
On November 30, the victim received a letter from the bank in relation to transactions made using his card.
Jill Derby, prosecuting, said: “He was not aware of the transactions and made further enquiries. Various items had been ordered for home delivery with Asda, Domino’s Pizza and mobile phone top-ups.
“He believed the defendant was responsible and reported the matter to the police.”
Baker admitted the offence in police interview and was charged with fraud by false representation.
Chris Pye-Smith, defending, told magistrates Baker used the card to buy goods worth £127.58 during a four-week period when he was not receiving benefits.
He added that Baker plans to move away from the area in four weeks and asked magistrates to avoid community service as the defendant wants a “fresh start”.
Magistrates agreed and told him to pay the court £260 and £127.58 in compensation.
