Dancers have performed for family and friends at the end of a summer school in Grantham.

The Chantry Dance Company, which moved to Grantham earlier this year, put on the contemporary ballet performance at the Dance Pointe studio the end of the week’s schooling.

The company put the 19 dancers, aged from 11 to 33, through their paces as if they were part of a professional ballet company.

Rae Piper who runs the company with husband Paul Chantry, said: “It is aimed at giving them a professional experience. It is not something they will have experienced before but everyone has progressed. It’s gone fantastically well.”

During the week the dancers followed a timetable just as the professional dancers with the company do, taking part in classes, creation, rehearsals and performance.

Mother of two Rachel Mitchell, who took part, said: “I have not done ballet since I was very small. It has been challenging and I have loved every minute of it.”

Sophie Radford, 17, who attends Walton Girls’ High School, said: “I want to be a dancer and this week has been a really good experience. It has given me an insight into company life.”

The dancers put on a 20-minute performance choreographed by artistic director Paul, who set up the company a few years ago in London. Earlier this year he and Rae moved the company to Grantham where Paul grew up.

The company has posted a video of part of the performance on YouTube. Go to http://bit.ly/1dmntUq
