An investment of almost £1 million has been injected into education for students with learning difficulties and disabilities at Grantham College.

The £934,571 boost is part of a £1.7 million funding programme by Lincolnshire County Council into post-16 education. It will be used to develop high quality facilities and training opportunities for lesser able students.

The successful bid by Grantham College proposed to create a dedicated suite of rooms for students with complex needs, including those on the autistic spectrum. The rooms will include a personal care area, sensory room, physiotherapy room, specialist classrooms and access to a sensory garden.

Coun Patricia Bradwell, executive councillor for children’s services, said: “Some of these young people have very complex medical and personal care needs. We are delighted that our partnership work with these colleges has been successful and they can look forward to some substantial funding to improve and extend services and facilities for this vulnerable group.

“It will ensure specialist teaching and environments for learning, and vocational and enterprise facilities to help students progress into work.”

Lincoln College received £261,800, its Growing Futures community group project received £255,200 and New College Stamford received £263,520.
