Grantham rowers took part in the St Neots Regatta in Cambridgeshire.

Representing Newark Rowing Club, the juniors enjoyed two days of hard racing and secured yet more wins and second places for the club.

The WJ14 quad of Sophie Eaves and Katie McLaughlin (both KGGS), with Stephanie Hennessy and Georgia Powell (both Walton Girls’ High School), coxed by Harriet Swindells (KGGS), rowed strongly to finish class winners. The girls were each rewarded with well deserved silver tankards.

Despite being aged only 16, George Mitchell (Priory Ruskin Academy) won his IM3 single scull event, beating rowers several years his senior in the process.

Will Bowmar (St George’s Academy) raced in the J18 single sculls event. This had one of the largest fields of the day, with 14 competitors all vying for the winner’s tankard. Will rowed excellently to reach the final, and finished a very creditable second.

Harriet Swindells and Hannah Fulton (both KGGS), competed in the WJ15 double sculls category. They easily won their first three races, but had to settle for the runners-up position in the final, being beaten by a home St Neots crew.
