British Model Flying Association is holding its annual National Championships and Model Aircraft Airshow at RAF Barkston Heath on August Bank Holiday weekend.

Model flying is the UK’s most popular air sport and the BMFA has 35,000 members and more than 850 clubs throughout the UK.

The event is the largest of its kind in Europe, with around 400 competitors. The whole cross section of model aircraft are displayed by highly skilled pilots, many of whom are world class. Aircraft flown at the event include large jets, military fighters and bombers from both world wars, and helicopters, together with civil light aircraft.

There is a supervised model building and flying workshop for children, and there will be more than 70 stalls selling a range of aero-modelling items, as well as a selection of craft stalls. Refreshments and bar facilities will be available from early morning until late evening.

The main days for spectators are Saturday and Sunday. Day gate entrance is £9 for adults and £6 for concessions with admission for under-18s free.
