Schools in the county have bucked the national trend in A-level results, seeing an increase in A and A* grades, says Lincolnshire County Council.

Nationally, the amount of exam entries awarded A or A* has dropped by 0.2 per cent, but in Lincolnshire the figure has risen by 2 per cent.

The school with the highest A-A* pass rate was in Caistor, but it was closely followed by other schools which have also exceeded the national high-grade pass rate, including Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School and King’s School, both in Grantham.

Councillor Patrica Bradwell, executive councillor for children’s services at the county council, said: “Despite a lot of talk nationally about a dip in top grades, Lincolnshire’s young people have continued to do even better than before.

“All sixth-form students and those in the colleges should be justly proud of themselves.”

The overall pass rate of 98.5 per cent continues to be above the national average of 98.1 per cent. Nine schools in the county have reported 100 per cent pass rates, two more than last year, including KGGS.

Initial reports from schools show that courses that are equivilant to A Levels have increased the pass rate by a further 1.1%.
