Grantham Journal Letter: ‘I fear good men are doing nothing’

Stuart Jacobs and Richard Davies are both right to raise the problem of anti-social behaviour in Grantham and surrounding area.

It is a fact of modern life that there is a moral vacuum in parts of society and some people do not recognise their responsibilities - they will simply get away with whatever they can. The problem is whether our local authorities are always up to the job of dealing with it? What about setting up wireless CCTV near the canal basin for example?

I am aware of situations in our village where SKDC‘s planning department is aware of developers doing such things as cutting down trees, in breach of planning conditions, and yet failing to do anything about it. Demoralised? Too much bother? Too much use of resources?

It would be well for these organisations to remember the words of Edmund Burke: “In order for evil to flourish, all that is required is for good men to do nothing,”

Stephen Pearson
