Bassingham racing driver Jack Harvey secured two strong finishes in the latest round of the GP3 Series at Hungary over the weekend.

A fourth place finish in Saturday’s race, followed by fifth on Sunday, saw the Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver move up to joint third in the drivers’ standings, just 16 points adrift of the leader with three more race weekends to go.

On Saturday morning, Jack qualified his ART GP car in fifth position for the afternoon’s race. Lining up on the third row of the grid, the MSA Team UK driver made a great start and was up to fourth position before turn one.

He spent the closing stages of the race fighting off the efforts of Sainz Jnr to retain fourth and claim a further four championship points.

For the reverse grid race on Sunday morning, Jack lined up in fifth position to take the race start and, after a fairly processional race, made no progress as the entire field struggled to make up many places, and settled for fifth.

Jack said it had been a solid weekend of racing: “We had a good pace in qualifying but I had traffic on my final set of tyres when I was attempting to set my flying lap, so my best lap was only good enough for P5.

“The track here is very tough to overtake on so, unfortunately, we weren’t able to make up too many places in the races.

“Our goal, as always, remains the championship so we will be working hard to build on this weekend’s result at the next round in Spa.”

Jack began racing in karts at tracks such as Fulbeck and Brandon. He won every karting championship he entered, including in Europe, before moving into single-seater cars and last year won the British Formula 3 Championship.

The Spa round of the GP3 Championship takes place over August Bank Holiday weekend.
