Two brothers charged with the murder of Grantham man Daniel Walsh have today appeared at Lincoln Crown Court by videolink.

Ben Croft, 24, and Sam Croft, 21, both from Barrowby are charged with the murder of Mr Walsh, 30, during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The pair spoke only to confirm their names when they appeared together at Lincoln Crown Court by videolink this morning.

No pleas were entered during the five minute hearing and no bail applications were made on behalf of the two men.

The case was adjourned until 28 October when both men will appear at Lincoln Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing.

If not guilty pleas are entered the case will be listed for a provisional trial at Lincoln Crown Court in January next year.

Judge Michael Heath remanded the pair in to custody and told them: “On that occasion you will be formally asked to enter a plea to the allegation that you face.

“If there is to be a trial in this case it will begin on January 6, 2014.”

Police were called to Edinburgh Road, Grantham, just after midnight on July 28 after a “violent incident.”

Mr Walsh was taken to Grantham Hospital where he later died.

A 24-year-old local man and a 26-year-old local woman who were also arrested in connection with the incident were later released without charge.

Ben and Sam Croft appeared at Grantham Magistrates Court on Monday.
