Karl Baillie rode in the National Youth Circuit Race Cycling Championships in Blackpool at the weekend.
An early break by three riders saw them build up a reasonable lead but Karl kept the pace rolling at the front of the chasing group.
Then attacks off of the front of the bunch reeled in the breakaway after 10 of the 25 laps.
With the whole field together riders started to go off the front in ones and twos forming a five-man break.
The Witham Wheeler tried to urge the main bunch to chase but it wasn’t to be as the pre-race favourites were happy to let the break go.
Karl gave it his all on the last lap, getting away from the peloton and reducing the gap to the break down from 30 seconds to 15 seconds by the finish to finish in a creditable sixth place.
