With Murray Mania sweeping the country after his historic Wimbledon victory on Sunday, Grantham Tennis Club is holding an open day at its Arnoldfield site tomorrow (Saturday).
The open day will take place between 2pm and 4pm .
After Andy Murray’s heroics on centre court against Novak Djokovic, the club has been inundated with enquiries regarding membership and coaching.
Paul Kennedy, one of the club’s coaches, said: “We normally get a surge of interest with the Wimbledon effect at this time of year but the magnitude of Murray’s victory after 77 barren years for British tennis means we are fielding an incredible amount of interest in the game.”
To cater for the demand the club is holding an impromptu open day where both children and adults can come and have a go, meet the members and see what the club can offer.
Racquets and refreshments will be available on the day and all are welcome to go.
l At the weekend, Grantham’s mixed doubles fifth team faced a strong David Lloyd West Bridgford team at home and lost heavily, 14 sets to 4. The fifth team were represented by Pam Aust & Dominic Newcombe, Janet Ibberson & Mike Roys and Jo Jones & John Legard.
The mixed doubles first team of Simon Cormer & Sophie Fletcher, Rob Isaac & Megan Jones and Andrew Isaac & Jackie Wilson also lost at home.
The men’s second team stopped the rot of matches lost with a 5-4 victory over Sleaford. Sam Bass & Ed Milner finished the match off with a 10 point tie-break. The other Grantham pairs were Toby King & Nigel Birch and Andrew Isaac & Josh King.
