Members of Grantham Swimming Club are among some of the top flight in the country.
William Hawkes is currently the fastest 11-year-old boy at 100m breaststroke nationally. He is a Lincolnshire county record holder and was a finalist in last year’s Midlands Championships. He is still, however, chasing a National qualifying time, and will be going up an age group just before the ASA Age Group Nationals.
Thirteen-year-old Leah Roughan is currently ranked second in the country for 200m breaststroke. She won a medal in the recent Zonal Championships and is also a Lincs county record holder.
She is a very strong contender to become Grantham Swimming Club’s first member to win a medal at the Age Group Nationals at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, in July.
And Sophie Culpin has also made huge gains in her performance, finishing as second 15-year-old in the Youth Midland Championships after a fourth place in the age 15-16 200m fly final. She is ranked 21st nationally in this event for 15-year-old girls.
