A humorous and touching play comes to Leadenham Village Hall tonight (May 22) and Allington Village Hall on Friday (May 24).

New Perspectives Theatre Company performs Entertaining Angels. The story concerns the Rev Stephen Parr, the new vicar of a small parish. Faced with a dwindling congregation, an uncompromising church warden and a lonely widower, his attempts to please everyone - including his wife Mel - are proving difficult.

Enter Kevin, an enigmatic stranger who turns up on the church’s doorstep seeking a place to shelter. Who is this mysterious man? Where has he come from? Where is he going? Kevin’s sudden arrival leaves a lasting impact on the entire community and rocks the delicate foundations of Stephen’s faith.

Entertaining Angels, by Brendan Murray, looks at the role of the church in contemporary village life, and what it really means to be a Christian in the 21st century. Like much of Murray’s work, the play has grown out of research he has done in the communities he is writing about. In this case, he has carried out a series of interviews with clergy, parishioners and other interested parties within rural communities.

The play starts at 7.30pm. Tickets for the Leadenham performance, including a buffet, cost £14 (£13 concessions) from Hilary Proctor on 01400 272835 or email hilary@leadenhampc.co.uk

Tickets for the Allington performance cost £8 and £6 for under-16. They are available from Allington Stores or by calling 01400 281042.
