The Reel cinema in Grantham will be taking part in a first next month by screening a production of famous ballet Swan Lake live from St Petersburg.
Tchaikovsky’s ballet will be beamed live to more than 50 countries around the world on Thursday, June 6, at 6.15pm. The production will be introduced by John Hurt and will star Ekaterina Kondaurova, who will follow in the footsteps of the Mariinsky company’s other legendary dancers - Pavlova, Nureyev and Barishnikov.
The performance will be filmed in the Mariinsky Theatre, built in 1860 in St Petersburg, and relayed live to a screen in the new Mariinsky, where a state of the art auditorium has been built.
This will be the first live transmission of ballet from a historic theatre to a worldwide audience.
Swan Lake was first performed in St Petersburg.
Tickets for the screening are £12.50 and concessions £10. The event will be screened in 2D and is a PG rating.
