Fenland Meerkats won the Lincolnshire Under-14 County League after a dominant season.
With 18 teams split into two divisions in this year’s competition, Fenland topped their division after winning seven out of their eight matches.
Last Saturday saw the top three teams from each division battle out a round robin tournament to decide the top six overall placings – and which two teams would go forward to represent Lincs at the Regional Tournament.
Meerkats were in determined mood and defeated Horncastle 14-7, Lincoln 14-4, Brigg 18-9 and Gainsborough 13-6 to set up a final match against Sleaford.
Fenland started strongly and built up quite a lead, but a few unforced errors allowed Sleaford back into the game and closed to within one goal, but Meerkats held on to become county champions.
Under-11
Fenland began the final tournament of the Lincolnshire High 5 Grand Prix tied on points with Lincoln City – setting up a tense final day’s competition last Saturday.
With six matches to play, Fenland sailed through their first five with ease to set up a final clash with Lincoln. They beat Boston 3-0, Boston 2nd 11-0, Gainsborough 6-2, Louth 8-0 and Brigg 9-0.
Fenland took an early lead and had Lincoln trailing 2-1 at the break. Pressure saw shots missed by both sides as a fired up Lincoln bounced back to take the win 4-2, leaving Fenland as county league runners-up.
Under-12
Fenland were involved in one final county match to decide who would finish second and third in the league.
Taking on Lincoln City, they started strongly but trailed 5-4 after the first quarter. Lincoln tightened their defence in the second half and won through 17-4 to leave Fenland third overall at the end of a very hard fought season.
