There was genuine cause for celebration at The Meres today when Grantham Town guaranteed their survival in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division with a 1-0 win over Marine.
Second from bottom side Kendal Town could only manage a 1-1 draw at Matlock Town and will now be relegated along with Eastwood Town.
The Gingerbreads opened the gap to six points over Kendal who still have two matches remaining, but Grantham’s superior goal difference has guaranteed they will play Premier Division football again next season.
Grantham generally dominated against Marine in another wind-affected match, but the scores were still level at half time. The Gingerbreads’ winner came in the 68th minute when substitute Jamie McGhee flicked the ball into the box for Rhys Lewis to head over Kendal keeper Callum Williams and into the net.
Attendance was 228.
