A girls’ school in Grantham has big plans in the pipeline to construct a new building and extend the provision for its sixth form students.

Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School bid to the Education Funding Agency for funding towards the cost of a new teaching block, and was granted £450,000, which headteacher Graham Burks described as “wonderful news”.

The bid for funding was made possible after the school gained academy status in September.

The new block will house three art rooms, a drama studio, display areas and two classrooms, and will enable the expansion of science into three additional labs. The expansion will provide “much-needed” space for a sixth form study area to cope with a 25 per cent increase in students in the last five years.

Mr Burks said Grantham MP Nick Boles has been very supportive of the expansion plans.
