YOUTH FOOTBALL: Cool hand Luke fires in hat trick for Gonerby

Gonerby started very positively, but the home team were equal in all departments.

Luke Bond was the difference at half time, with a superb header from a set piece.

Within five minutes of the second half, Rustons were rewarded with a contentious penalty decision, which was duly converted.

Gonerby regained the initiative and put the home team under a lot of pressure. Man-of-the-match Bond beat several players, before slotting in his second. He went on to find the net again to secure a well deserved hat trick.

After a three week break, the home team took a bit of time to find their rhythm.

Gonerby worked hard but they were constantly denied by the in-form keeper.

But the deadlock was broken by Harry Hutton to secure the win for Gonerby.

Man of the match was shared between Ryan Smith and James Ladds.

Windy conditions played a large part in this game and Gonerby conceded when their keeper was unable to control a swirling ball.

Gonerby responded through Ryan Smith but St Helen’s regained the lead before half time.

The second period was all Gonerby but they were only able to equalise through Luke Bond.

Man of the match was shared between Aiden Hotchin and Daniel Hibbert.

Barrowby won the toss and decided to play with the wind behind them in the first half.

They were awarded a free kick which Josh White fired into the back of the net.

Again Woodhall Spa give away a silly free kick and man-of-the-match White converted his second.

Barrowby come flying out the blocks in the second half. Ryan Evans crossed for Kyle Scott to meet at the back post.

David Croke picked the ball up 40 yards out and dribbled past four players before firing home hard into the bottom corner of the net.

Then Ryan Evans broke down the right hand side and crossed for Oliver Reid to head home and complete the rout.

Barrowby were crowned champions after beating their nearest rivals, and with two games still to play .

The wind definitely helped the Lions take the lead when, fully 40 yards out, Joe Down’s free kick took a deflection from a player in the wall and flew past the Gonerby keeper.

Man-of-the-match Down tried his luck again from a free kickand curled a delightful shot over the keeper from 30 yaards.

Gonerby had attacks of their own and went close through Coates.

Lions increased their lead further after probably the only real quality move of the match.Cooper played the ball into Foister who in turn passed to Sam Wright and he went on to beat the last defender and smashed home from 15 yards.

Despite Gonerby having the wind behind them in the second half, they were unable to get through a well marshalled Barrowby defence.
