The leader of South Kesteven District Council Linda Neal represented Grantham at the funeral of Lady Thatcher in London today.

Coun Neal was invited to represent the town along with Mayor of Grantham Ian Stokes.

Coun Neal said: “We arrived just before 9am and took some time to stand on the steps and look down on the people in the streets and there was an incredible hush - an eery silence.”

Coun Neal was sat towards the back near to the choir during the service.

She said: “When the choir broke into song it was absolutely beautiful.”

The service itself was traditional and “quite moving”, Coun Neal said.

She said: “It was a very traditional service which Margaret Thatcher prepared herself. It was very appropriate and quite moving.”
