A one-person protest is taking place outside the birthplace of Margaret Thatcher in Grantham this morning.
John Morgan, husband of Labour district councillor Charmaine Morgan, is brandishing a placard outside Living Health, on the corner of Broad Street and North Parade.
It reads: “Grantham resident against Maggie.”
Mr Morgan, of Harrowby Road in Grantham, told the Journal: “What I’m protesting about is the Government’s propaganda to resurrect the reputation of the worst Prime Minister of the 20th century.”
Mr Morgan has timed his protest to coincide with the funeral of Margaret Thatcher in London.
Conservative councillor Mike Taylor has criticised the decision by Mr Morgan to protest on the day of Baroness Thatcher’s funeral as “absolutely disgusting”.
He added: “It’s not appropriate.
“I appreciate that people have a right to complain and say what they like but not on the day of the funeral.
“Some dignity should be shown.”
Leader of Lincolnshire County Council Martin Hill joined in the criticism, saying: “Frankly, he should know better.
“It’s a sad day and the funeral is not the time to indulge in such puerile activities.”
