A man thankful to Grantham Hospital for saving his life has made a donation of £200.

Five years ago, John Beevers, 71, was taken to the A&E department of Grantham Hospital suffering from pernicious anaemia. He beat the odds to make a full recovery, and so show his appreciation, he has raised money through a dominoe competition held at the Bull Inn in Bottesford.

Mr Beevers, of Bottesford, said: “I decided to do it for A&E at Grantham Hospital because I was rushed through those doors myself. £200 is not a lot but it all helps.”

Hospital staff nurse Mary Hyde said: “It’s nice that people in the community fund-raise for us. It makes you feel appreciated.”

Mr Beevers has raised money for many charities over the years, including Cancer Research and Dove Cottage Day Hospice.
