The Very Rev Dr David Ison, Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, talks about Margaret Thatcher’s legacy and its base in Christianity - her father, Alfred Roberts was a Methodist lay preacher in her home town of Grantham, Lincs.
He was speaking outside St Paul’s as security barriers were erected and a ring of security tightened its grip on the ceremonial funeral of the former Prime Minister, who died last week aged 87.
More than 2,000 people from around the world will attend the funeral, including the Queen - the first time she has attended a Prime Minister’s funeral since that of Sir Winston Churchill in 1965.
Having a closer view than almost anyone of the historic occasion will be Grantham-born solider Sgt Jason Buffham of the Fourth Regiment, Royal Artillery, who will be one of the pall bearers.
