Kesteven under-8s took on teams from Melton and West Bridgford at a snow covered Woodnook last Sunday.
Ks fielded two teams, as did Bridgford, making for a five-team competition.
Sporting their new Wetherspoons-sponsored tops, Kesteven 1st won overall, taking six straight wins including a 1-0 victory over Melton in the final. Kesteven 2nd finished fourth.
The day was a massive success for both Kesteven teams and with many outstanding performances. William Carson showed flair as a future winger with a fantastic run. Lewis was unlucky today not to make his first match try but did all the running and set it up for a simple one-step score for the player to whom he passed.
Jack and Josh both showed a real forward moving aggressive streak. Arieanne also showed her new grip on the game and stopped several players with a handful of tags.
Speed warriors Rory, Cam, the Sams, Sylvie and Chris provided the bulk of the scoring, but Charlie, Leo and Tyler also chalked scores which made the difference. This combined with very aggressive tagging pushed the other teams back, with many turnover balls.
l Kesteven under-8s took on East Retford at Woodnook, with a large squad initially split into two teams with a rolling plan for substitutions.
Starting on a half-size pitch, the A squad played three matches and won them all. The first saw the Black Army triumph 6-5 with tries from Sam G., Jack, Rory, Chris and two for Cam A. A 3-2 win featured tries from Chris (2) and Sam G. The third match was won 5-4 with Cameron Muir, Cam A., Rory and Chris getting the tries.
A final match was played on a full-size pitch with Kesteven again triumphing 12-9. Tries came from little Harry, big Harry (2), Cam A. (2), Rory (2) and Cam M. (3).
