Grantham Town’s chairman outlined the club’s plans for the future at an open meeting at Strikers Bar last Thursday evening.
Newly-appointed Peter Railton addressed more than 40 fans, along with fellow directors Barry Palmer and Darron Quinn. The evening was also an opportunity for supporters to meet new management duo Ian Robinson and Gary Sucharewycz.
Mr Railton said that despite the club having been forced to reduce the budget for the rest of the season, players had generally been understanding of the situation.
He said: “It still leaves us with a good budget which is larger than some in the league. The wages due will be paid, with the cuts taking effect from then.
“The players are aware and, to be fair, their reaction has been very good. Many are staying, although the club have agreed to release Paul Grimes from his contract.”
The Gingerbreads also lost Conor Higginson, who has returned to Brigg Town, and Martin Ball is going back to Carlton Town.
Mr Railton and his directors announced several new initiatives around which the future of the club could be built.
The general theme will be to try and increase the involvement of the community in the club, forging closer links with schools, youth organisations and local business.
Mr Railton said he thought the meeting had gone well and was pleased with reaction from supporters since he took over the position as chairman. He said: “It was a very positive meeting, that myself and the directors have taken a lot of points from, moving forward.
“It has amazed me how many people have come forward and said that they are willing to help in any way they can to ensure the future of the football club is secure.
“With the commitment from numerous players wanting to stay with the club, along with the proactive approach of our new managers wanting to implement their own changes as soon as possible, everything is looking positive.
“Judging by Saturday’s performance in front of the faithful followers, we are moving in the right direction.”
Mr Railton urged all fans, both old and new, to get behind the managerial duo, the players and the board, in an effort to take the club forward.
He said: “I wish you all a very merry Christmas and happy New Year.”
