A FATHER-OF-THREE was fined £1,250 after he admitted driving his car when he was more than twice over the legal limit.

Michael Shaw, 56, of Church Lane, Leighton Bromswold, Huntingdon, decided at the last minute to drive home from a business meeting on December 8.

Shaw was on the A1 at Great Ponton when officers saw him driving his Jaguar erratically at 55mph and swerving within the lane.

Daniel Paulson, prosecuting, said police tried to stop Shaw several times using their blue lights and sirens before eventually he pulled over near Stamford. He recorded a breath test of 87mcgs in 100ml of breath.

The company director, who now may lose his job, said it was ‘a moment of madness’.

Andrew Coley, defending, said Shaw, who was disqualified for 18 months, has an 8-month pregnant wife and an ill son who needs to be driven to hospital for appointments. He usually drives about 20,000 miles a year for his work.

Shaw was ordered to pay £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
