Teams from Grantham and Bourne’s University of the Third Age fought out a tough table tennis match at Cliffedale Primary School last Wednesday.
Grantham U3A narrowby lost 23-17 in a match which featured six group stages, with first and second places progressing to the the knockout process.
The afternoon saw a wide range of playing abilities and ages, including 92-year-old Olga Reid.
Organiser and coach John Mapletoft presented the winners and runners-up with Fred Leadbeater trophies. Cliffedale head teacher Robert Young was thanked for his continued support of the sport.
Despite the loss, Grantham U3A group leader Jean Ware said it had still been a wonderful result. She said: “We lost very heavily in the last match and it shows what a difference six months of coaching can make.”
