Grantham Athletic Club was well represented in the opening round of the Lincs League Cross-country series at RAF Cranwell last Sunday.
Athletes spanned the age groups from the new runners in the under-11 category to the more experienced veteran men and women.
The event started with the under-11 boys and girls which brought immediate celebration as Jordan Seetul-Drew came home to win in his first race for the club at this age group. Frances Sheard produced a strong run after returning from injury to come in 11th place. Joshua Davey was next home in 15th followed by Holly Smith and Joshua Brooks as they completed the 1.8km course.
Letitia Barrowcliff showed her strength in the under-13 girls to finish an impressive second.
Lead GAC runner in the under-20/senior/veteran men was Arthur Short who completed the 10km course in 21st place. Paul Davidson and Chris Armstrong finished 35th and 48th respectably. Mark Gray was 50th, John Ellerby 54th, John Bainbridge 58th, David Eldridge 60th, Stuart Sinclair 66th and Phil Hall 68th.
Seven GAC boys tackled the under-13 event. Ethan Richards-Cole led the strong field out. As the race progressed, a group broke away and as they crossed the line Ethan held on to take fourth, with William Tucker fifth, Lewis Davey seventh, George Hatton ninth, Ben Dewar 14th, Angus Sharp 19th and William Watters 20th.
Melinda Jordan ran a really strong race over the 5km under-17 women’s race to take fourth place. The under-20/senior/veteran women’s race saw Polly Atherton finish 10th. Caryn Garner was 15th and Grace Plant 32nd.
