Grantham Falcons began their Junior League season with a good win over a determined Lincoln Royals team at the weekend.
Grantham Falcons have been training hard for a number a weeks and this paid off as they led from start to finish against Lincoln Royals.
Grantham were measured in their offence, taking good balanced shots and with their big men Toby Mills and Joe Pashley consistently winning rebounds, they scored regularly throughout.
In defence, Falcons hustled their opponents and, with the fresh legs of Henry Tse, made their opponents turn the ball over at regular intervals. With Lukas Armalis hitting three-pointers regularly, Falcons established a good lead.
The second half continued in a similar vein with Falcons continuing to pass the ball around well in offence to find an open shot. Grantham’s defence still frustrated Royals and the unselfish play of Sam Penford at both ends of the court ensured Falcons maintained their lead.
As the game entered the final quarter, Royals began to put more pressure on the Grantham team and started to close the gap. Falcons responded well with more effort on defence and being composed in offence.
This increased pressure in defence saw Matthew Bye and Joe Cunningham getting on the end of fast breaks to kill the game off as the Falcons ran out winners 41-31.
Grantham Falcons: T. Mills, J.Cunningham, H. Tse, S.Penford, J.Pashley, L.Armalis, M. Bye.
