FANCY learning a bit of cha cha cha or tango? Or maybe the waltz or jive?
If you would like to learn a new dance move or two, why not try the Chevalier School of Dance?
The Grantham school is run by Karen Chevalier with her partner Peter Martin-Mayhew. I went along to a session at Belton Lane Primary School on Monday to see what it was all about.
There were couples of all ages learning the cha cha cha when I walked in, with Karen talking them through the moves.
Everyone was chatting and laughing in between sections, evidence that the club really is a great opportunity to meet people and make new friends.
Karen has been running the dance class for four years, as a qualified teacher.
She said: “I am trained to the highest qualification as a dance teacher.
“What I love about dance is the music and the feeling of wanting to move to it really. It just gets you going.
“Everybody here makes it good fun. They make new friends socially and it keeps them fit.”
This is echoed by Peter, who said dancing allows him to “eat like a horse” and stay fit and healthy.
He added: “It’s really about bringing people together of all ages. We’re a little family really. I’ve never had so many friends.”
As well as the dance classes at the school, Karen will hold sessions at the Jubilee Church of Life Centre in St Catherine’s Road, Grantham, from Tuesday, September 18. These lessons are for absolute beginners and will be ballroom and latin American, which she specialises in. Members can also learn the Argentine tango and sequence dancing. Karen also offers private tuition.
Entry to dance classes is £5 per person.
