A FAMILY of peregrine falcons is now complete following the hatching of three eggs.
The female peregrine has been busy caring for her chicks in the nesting box on the tower of St Wulfram’s Church in Grantham.
The first chick hatched last Sunday, the second the next day and the third last Wednesday. Sadly, the fourth egg in the clutch did not hatch, which is not uncommon.
Bob Sheppard is the manager of the Grantham Peregrine Project, as a member of the Lincolnshire Bird Club.
He said: “I’m delighted the birds have hatched successfully in the recent atrocious weather that had seen some chicks perish in other areas of the UK.
“The male will be busy bringing prey to the nest in the next fortnight. Then the female will help out with the hunting.”
The peregrine project is a partnership between the church, the Lincolnshire Bird Club and the Wildlife Conservation Partnership.
A ‘pegcam’ is set up by the box with footage streamed over the internet to allow other bird hobbyists to watch the birds as they go about their business. Visit www.lincsbirdclub.co.uk/pegcam.html
Footage is also streamed on to a 32-inch screen TV in the church, open to visitors to view.
