A GREEDY shoplifter was caught after returning to the scene of the crime.

Andrew Knock of Alexandra Road, Grantham, stole cider from Sainsburys in Grantham. He may well have got away with his crime but returned later the same day and attempted to steal three pizzas.

This time he was stopped by staff who recovered the pizzas but not the cider.

Rory Macmillan, defending, said Knock, 34, stole because his benefits had been cut from £135 to £96 and he was out of money.

Mr Macmillan added: “He says he will not make the same mistake because if he runs out of money he can go to the church and get a meal and a bag of food.”

Chairman of Magistrates Graham Harman said: “We accept what you said that you will never ever do this again.” Knock was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £3.99 compensation.
