A THIEF stole items from B&M Bargains in Grantham worth more than £100.
The court heard how Anthony Smith of Warmington Avenue, Grantham, has more than 30 previous convictions for theft on his record.
The 33-year-old was seen on the store’s CCTV cameras picking up two boxes containing irons and attempting to leave without making payment. He was stopped as he left the store.
Smith told police that he intended to sell the items, worth a combined £139.98, to “pay the vet’s bill on behalf of his ailing cat”.
Smith was ordered to pay a fine of £75 and a victim surcharge of £15. He was spared costs due to his limited means.
