THE Grantham branch of the British Heart Foundation is seeking new members to help fund-raise and save lives.

The branch currently has eight members who organise a range of fund-raising activities each year including supermarket collections, golf days, garden fetes and the Grantham Santa Run. They also work in local schools delivering BHF initiatives.

The work of members typically raises around £5,000 each year but they are always looking for more help.

The branch was set up by Roger Blakeman who is now chairman of the group.

Roger said: “I would encourage anyone to get involved with volunteering for the British Heart Foundation in some way. You never know when heart disease may affect you or someone in your family.

“I wanted to give something back to the BHF and being involved with the Grantham branch is a lot of fun.

“Supporting the BHF makes me feel good about myself knowing that later down the line my time would have helped such a worthwhile cause. For me, knowing I helped save a life today is the biggest reward I can ask for.”

Volunteers in Grantham can help in numerous different ways. Helena Mair, BHF Fund-raising and Volunteer Manager in Grantham, said: “Without the support of volunteers we simply wouldn’t be able to do the life-saving work that helps thousands of people living with heart and circulatory disease each year. Just a few hours of your time can really help so please consider volunteering for the BHF and sign up today.”
