SCHOOLS, the court, council offices and more will shut down on Wednesday as hundreds of Granthamians go on strike.
Lincolnshire County Council has released a list of schools which have so far confirmed their plans to close, but many have yet to confirm whether or not they will be open to pupils, leaving parents in limbo.
King’s School and Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School both confirmed to the Journal this week that they would remain open on Wednesday.
KGGS headteacher Graham Burks said pupils are due to sit mock examinations that day and they will still go ahead as planned.
He said: “KGGS will remain open but we are likely to experience disruption as a number of our staff are choosing to exercise their right to withdraw labour on that day.
“The leadership of the school is not encouraging this action or supporting it but we are working with our community to enable the school to remain open for those who need to be here.”
However, the county council has confirmed that St Anne’s in Grantham will be closed, along with National Junior School, St Sebastian’s Primary School in Great Gonerby and Harrowby Infants’ School.
The council has urged all schools to report whether they intend to remain open or close by the end of today (Nov 25).
A spokesman for United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust - the body which runs Grantham Hospital - said it does not plan to lose any services on the day.
The spokesman said: “We are putting contingencies in place in areas we are aware may be affected to ensure services continue to run safely, and as smoothly as possible.
“At this stage we do not have plans to reduce our activity on the day of action, but we are keeping the situation under review as a clearer picture of the numbers taking industrial action emerges.”
South Kesteven District Council is warning people to expect some interruption to its normal service as a result of the strike.
A spokesman for the council said: “Public sector unions have announced strike action on Wednesday which is likely to affect all councils.
“We are aiming to provide services as usual, however some interruptions are inevitable.
“If any changes to our services are necessary we will notify local media and the latest information will be posted on our website www.southkesteven.gov.uk. Grantham Magistrates’ Court is also set to close on Wednesday, with no cases being heard.
