GRANTHAM Town extended their lead at the top of the league following a comfortable victory over New Mills at The Meres on Tuesday night.
The Gingerbreads soon got into their stride and by midway through the first half were bombarding the visitors with wave after wave of attacks.
Grantham resumed the onslaught after the break and got their reward a minute into the second half with a simple tap-in for skipper Ben Saunders.
Town continued to pepper the New Mills goal throughout the half, forcing the visitors’ keeper James Coates to pull off a few decent saves.
Grantham effectively sealed the win in the 70th minute when Martin Ball headed in after good build-up work by Ben Saunders.
The Gingerbreads now lead the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South by eight points from Ilkeston, and have three games in hand on the Derbyshire side. Third placed Carlton Town are a further four points adrift and lost again on Tuesday night.
