PUPILS at Ancaster Primary School turned into scientists for the day to solve their CSI projects.

The investigations were just a small part of a week dedicated to science at the school.

Pupil Lucy McDowall, 10, said: “It was very good fun. The best bit is doing the investigation all together as a group.

“It is a bit hot getting dressed up though.”

The pupils wore full forensic suits and masks while they completed their investigations.

Headteacher Katie Durant said: “Special events like this are just a snippet of things we can do in the school.

“You don’t need to sit kids in a classroom. We want the children to recognise learning as a fun thing they like to do.”

Pupils at the school will have a week every half term, like the science week, that is dedicated to a subject. And they get to help choose the themes.

The next one is a performing arts week.

Ms Durant said: “That was their idea.”

The school, which was graded ‘satisfactory’ in its last Ofsted report in 2010 has had a lot of changes since then.

Ms Durant added: “We would quite welcome an Ofsted now, it’s a different place to what it was. These children and teachers aren’t just satisfactory.”
