Grantham and District Saturday Football League have a new chairman at the helm.
Vice-chairman for the last four seasons, Lee Dobson takes over from Dennis Green who has been in the position for the last six years. Dennis will take on the role of fixtures secretary. Taking over as vice-chairman is former Barkston FC man Alan Card.
Lee has a wealth of experience within the league, having played and joint managed with Rob Alderson at Ancaster Rovers, and is a real grassroots football man.
His vision is to strengthen the league and attract new teams and those who have dropped off the radar, hoping to reverse the national decline in club participation.
Lee is looking to work with Grantham Town and their youth set-up and intends to start up an under-18 league so the older teenagers can play locally rather than travel to contest competitions such as the Lincolnshire League.
He is hoping to improve communications and promote local football through the press and online, also in an effort to appeal to the lost younger generation.
Lee will continue the league’s work with Grantham and District Referees’ Association, looking to improve standards and advance career progression where possible.
One of Lee’s first acts as chairman was to congratulate Keith Hollingshead, formerly of Buckminster United, on being voted a life member of the league in recognition of his contribution to football over the past 31 years and, in particular, his committee work over the last 20.
