An 11-year-old boy was chased from a Grantham primary school by a strange man this week, heightening fears of parents living on the Earlesfield estate.

Parents in the Chestnut Grove area are already concerned following reports of a man trying to lure away children several weeks ago, and this most recent incident has fueled their worries.

The young boy was near to Spitalgate Primary School in Trent Road on Wednesday as pupils left for the day when the man approached him. He was chased towards Chestnut Grove.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said officers carried out an extensive search of the area but found no-one matching the description.

Then just over an hour later, a further report came in to police of a man fitting the description being in Trent Road. A second search was unsuccessful.

Mother Jackie Smith, of Shaw Road, featured in the Journal last month calling for better protection for children in the area.

Yesterday (Thursday), she said: “Police are saying kids are safe to play out but they’re not.”

Police spokesman James Newall said parents should talk to their children about staying away from strangers. He added: “There are dedicated patrols and we’ve been into schools in the area to raise awareness of the issue. We would urge parents not to panic but take sensible precautions.”

The strange man is described as being 5ft 9ins tall and wearing a black hooded tracksuit and black trainers. Information to: 101.
