The arrival of the Mallard last week brought with it an opportunity to attract influential business people to Grantham to hear what the town has to offer.
The message investors and businesses heard was “Grantham is going places - get on board”. This came from representatives of the Mallard Grantham Partnership on Friday as they held a business session to launch the weekend festival.
Leader of South Kesteven District Council Linda Neal told more than 80 delegates that the local authority is starting to deliver on its promise to provide quality homes, employment opportunities, an improved town centre and leisure and cultural facilities.
She said: “We can only deliver our ambitions and maximise the opportunities that we have to offer by working hand in hand with people and organisations like yourselves who can share in our vision for a prosperous future for our district.”
SKDC chief executive Beverly Agass went on to say that the day was an opportunity to shine the spotlight on Grantham.
She said: “Many of our guests today have travelled up from London on the train so you know that you can get here in an hour. You could be here and enjoy our high standard of living and our great schools – Grantham has recently been recognised as one of the best places to live and work in the UK.
“My council is totally committed to economic growth and we are determined to push forward and make this happen.”
Details of Grantham’s Growth Point status were given by leader of Lincolnshire County Council Martin Hill, who added: “It has long been my personal ambition that Grantham should reach its full potential whilst paying full regard to the heritage of the area.”
