United Counties League
Division One
Buckingham Town 0
Harrowby United 3
Harrowby United preserved their unbeaten run on their travels to the Irish Centre Bletchley, home of Buckingham Town.
United needed to shuffle their pack due to the suspension of keeper Jack Drury, replaced by debutant Grant Davies, and Sam Kirton took to the field in the unaccustomed role of centre back, filliing Jack Whyley’s place.
The first half was evenly contested on a very bumpy pitch with chances at either end few and far between. The most notable effort came from the home side and produced a fine save from visiting custodian Davies after 38 minutes.
Harrowby were quickly into their stride in the second period and took the lead three minutes in. A long clearance upfield was shielded by Craig Wilson and picked up by Lee Shaw who fired past Diego Vasquez in the Robins’ goal.
Things got tough for the Arrows after 65 minutes when they were reduced to 10 players following a straight red card for Wilson. During a challenge with Vasquez, the Harrowby player lashed out with his boot, catching the keeper in the head as they rolled on the ground.
Davies was called into action five minutes later, diving to his right to tip a shot on to the post and away to safety.
The visitors doubled their lead after 74 minutes when Liam Harper capitalised on an error by Vasquez. The keeper dropped the ball, allowing Harper to steal it and slot into an empty net.
The Robins failed to take advantage of the extra man and Harrowby added a third goal after 81 minutes with a fine solo effort from substitute Dan Reidy. The Arrows front man latched on to a long clearance from man-of-the-match Kirton, cut inside a defender, drew the keeper and coolly slotted the ball home.
United saw out the rest of the game comfortably to record a clean sheet and extend the unbeaten start to five games, moving up to second in the table behind Potton United on goal difference.
