Grantham phone shop ‘gave me my phone back in pieces’ says angry woman

A businesswoman who went to collect her mobile phone after repairs was shocked to get it back in bits.

Stephanie Shine, of Hough-on-the-Hill, was given her Nokia Lumia 800 back in pieces two weeks after taking it into Carphone Warehouse in Grantham on July 31 because of a faulty battery.

Mrs Shine, who runs a hat-making business, said: “I was stunned, speechless. I had things on my phone which were not backed up. I use the phone for my business. When I drew my designs I could take a picture and zap it over to my client, but now I have to use my camera and transfer it to the computer before sending it.”

Mrs Shine says she was offered an inferior, refurbished model to replace her broken phone, but demanded to see the manager.

She said: “He seemed as exasperated as I was, but there was not what I would call an apology. They did not want to pay any kind of compensation at all. The very least I deserved was a new phone, not a refurbished one.”

Mrs Shine is still paying for her contract with the Nokia phone until January. She has been told she can have a better model to replace her phone but this has not been delivered yet. She says she still wants compensation for the loss of her phone.

The Journal asked Carphone Warehouse for a comment but the company had not replied before going to press.
