British Transport Police are seeking witnesses after a bus driver was left with a cut to the face after being attacked outside Grantham railway station.

A spokesman for BTP described the incident as a “violent attack” which left the victim with a wound above his eye.

Two men, aged 54 and 44, both from Grantham, have been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident and released on police bail until Monday, 7 October.

Detective Constable Lee Parsons said: “As a rail replacement bus reached Grantham station just after 10pm, the driver was set upon by two men who had been on the bus.

“This vicious and completely unwarranted attack left the driver, a 53-year-old man from Cambridgeshire, requiring hospital treatment for a wound above his left eye, as well as bruises.”

Officers urgently want to hear from anyone who was near the station at the time, in particular the station car park where the attack took place on Saturday, August 17.

DC Parsons added: “We are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry, including speaking to witnesses, and it is vitally important that we identify and speak to anyone who saw what happened.

“There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of frightening attack on a member of railway staff simply doing his job, and we will use everything in our power to identify those responsible and deal with them accordingly.”

Anyone with information should contact British Transport Police by calling 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 quoting reference B10/NEA of 23/08/13. Alternatively, information can be passed to the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
