FIREFIGHTERS were called to Grantham train station this afternoon following reports of a fire on a passenger train.

The fire started in one of the passenger carriages and was reported to Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue at 11.30am today (Friday).

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said the fire has now been put out and all passengers have been evacuated safely. Nobody was injured in the incident.

The cause was hydraulic oil leaking on to the engine. The on-board fire suppression system was found to have put the fire out itself.

National Rail is reporting on its website that “trains on all routes through Grantham are being delayed by up to 40 minutes. There is currently no estimate for a normal train service to resume.”

To find out how this might affect your journey, use the National Rail Enquiries real time Journey Planner, or call TrainTracker on 0871 200 49 50.
